Another double posting today. Making up for skipping a couple of days this week already so I don't want to get too far behind...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, I was leveling Brogan slowly and occasionally went over to another character if I wanted some time alone. I was the third highest character in the guild at the time. The highest was Jokedubya, our NE warrior and he was followed by BiL our NE priest. When Joke hit 60 he started doing battlegrounds a lot and then decided to create a horde character and give that a go. Well, that was a shock because we didn't play the enemy. Not then. Then BiL hit 60 and decided he wanted to do end game. That meant joining a raiding guild and so he left and started the arduous journey to getting better and better gear and seeing the same instance over and over and over. At least, I believe thats what happened then. I never saw that side of WoW. On leaving, he handed the reigns of leadership over to me.
There was Brogan, leader of the Tremors and still crawling to 60. It was another new experience and so I jumped at it with relish. I had big plans and tried to get more done in the guild. My plans were that we would help each other out. We would assist each other in getting professions up. We would be able to get specific items made by other people or provide items they needed that someone had in stock. Beyond that I really didn't have much of an idea. Others would occasionally run instances they were the level for but little Brogan was still climbing the levels, working his way towards 60.
Then, one day someone mentioned that another player wanted to join and wanted a particular rank. I said that they could be invited and I would talk to them. The person wanted to be promoted to a PVP rank which I explained wasn't possible. This was again in an era when to gain ranks in pvp you had to do a lot of battlegrounds. the Old Days. So then they asked for a higher guild rank. I explained that they would need to help the guild out. He beleived that coming up with a couple of ideas and inviting every he could with guild invite requests was sufficient to be promoted to officer, at least in his eyes. I had to explain that he needed to be more courteous with his invites and that he should also visit the website. At this point, we started coming up with the idea we might need a guild charter to cover acceptable behaviour. Running the guild was starting to be a lot of hard work. The problem player soon left the guild and created his own but he wasn't particularly successful with it. I have to admit I had a level one character in the city and he invited him. I joined the guild sort of as a spy but I saw that nothing really happened. I think he referenced the Tremors in the guild message saying that his guild was going to be better than them which I found amusing.
I eventually hit 60. It took a lot of hard work and a long time but I was finally there. Now came the next big task, earning the 1000g needed for the epic mount and riding. I don't remember much of this except that I got to around 500g or there about. But it was long, slow and boring. I played the other characters occasionally but it wasn't much and again was slow. Other players got to 60 but with so few there they eventually left for other guilds or other servers or started playing alts themselves. The guild was falling apart. I didn't know what to do about it and I think most didn't care.
And with that I stopped playing. The game didn't interest me as much as it had. At some point, free character transfers came up offering transfer from Nordrassil (where I was) to other new servers. Nordrassil wasn't a particularly stable server and so I transfered the entire lot off to Bronze Dragonflight. All characters were able to keep their names except for Brogan. He had to change his to something else but deep down he was still Brogan. Always will be. The guild eventually disbanded. I didn't play on the new server, just occasionally logged on to check the characters as I still kept up with the subscription but just didn't play.
It looked like the end of WoW for me...

Back to Basics - The Beginnings
Ok, last night I was bored. Really really bored. Don't get me wrong, I was enjoying wow. Maybe it was the heat. Maybe that something I was trying to watch off the computer kept causing me issues leading me to the conclusion that maybe I have a hard disk fault developing but I just didn't want to do much last night.
I was checking over auctions and what not. I should have being taking advantage of the midsummer festival to help level my rogue. I could have done SS dailies on my Warlock. I could even have leveled my Death Knight or Paladin a bit. But in all honesty I just didn't feel like it. So I tried something else.
I have characters on other servers. I have friends who play on other servers too. But I have a lot invested in the server I play on. However, I have been intrigued for a while over the project Stokpile did involving creating a new character with no support. Well, I can't do that on my server. I have characters on both sides and besides I would just cheat. So I thought how about creating a character on another server. Well, last night I did.
I mentioned that I had friends on another server. I thought to create a character there so that in future I could go "Hi there, remember me." They play with characters with very suggestable names. Names that have hidden meanings or are double entendres. I do too. I created a Death Knight there called Itsafloppin so that I would fit right in. They don't know I have done that. Besides, I haven't even played him at all. I might use him for some profession stuff later but to start with I wanted to see how I could do from scratch.
So, I created a fresh new level 1 character. I thought go with an Orc. That way I am going to be able to get to the commerce centre of the Horde, should I need it. So, Orc it is. Now to class. Well, I haven't ever really played a Warrior so lets give that a go. So, Orc Warrior it is. Now I need a name. Maybe something suggestive so I can fit in later with that crowd. I don't have to worry about RP names, anything like that. So... A name... A name... And I could only think of one. It just kept going round and round and round. I entered the name and proceeded to login...
Lunchmoney the Orc Warrior was born and ready to start making money in a new frontier (and if you are reading this Stokpile, I'm sorry but I just couldn't come up with anything else).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I picked up the quests in the starting area and got going to make a little to start with. It had been a while since I had been here so I ended up going into the demon cave twice because of the order I did quests. Bit annoyed at the waste of time there. And I also foolishly bought the first available skill at level 2 even though I should have been saving my money for later. But soon I was out of the starting zone and heading North to Orgrimmar where I had plans to make my fortune. I had 6 shiny silver pieces from doing jobs and selling the rubbish I had picked up.
But first there was some stops I needed to make. I had a quest to deliver a package to the inn in Razor Hill. While there, I visited the fire outside and bought a cooking recipe from the vendor there. My 6s had now dropped to 4 and a half. But soon I was walking into the bustling city of Orgrimmar. I spoke to the innkeeper there about having a room for the foreseeable future and headed further into the city to learn how to handle fire. I was given a number of torches and blossoms, the latter of which I handed in for more torches. I then headed to the Auction House to see if any one was interested in what I had.
I put up the recipe (the one that converts scorpid stingers into something edible, apparently a delicacy enjoyed by Thrall) and the 30 torches I had up for sale. The auctioneer said he could take them for up to 2 days if I was interested. I would have to put a small deposit down on the recipe but the torches were unusual enough that he would take them for free. I could check back later to see if they had sold and he would happily mail them to me if no one was interested, minus the deposit of course.
I decided to then go and wash the dust off me, Durotar is covered in the stuff and I was quite dirty after my travels. So, after a relaxing soak I put on my worn travelling clothes and checked in on the Auction House to see how my wares were doing. Imagine my supprise when I checked the ledger to find my recipe had sold. I had paid a little over a silver piece with a few coppers for it and had decided to try my luck. I had asked the steep sum of 10g and found that someone had paid that price. The payment was being sorted and I was informed that it would be delivered to me by secure courier. I headed off to bed knowing that this truly was the land of dreams. Maybe I could make my fortune.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This narative style is completely unintended. I started off by trying to approach it from what I did, how I got started and all but found myself telling it from a first person perspective as if I was there. Quite unusual as I normally play on an RP realm where I do little RP and find myself writing the entry of my new non-RP character as more of a story narative. I might see about keeping that up.
I was quite pleased with the start though. I have a play time of less than an hour, Lunchmoney is already level 6 and has around 10g coming in. The torches haven't sold yet and I am not holding out much hope this late into the festival but there is no deposit on posting them so I might just see about keeping them up, maybe lowering the price and then either ditching them or storing for next year if I keep this up.
This is just an exercise in seeing whether I can make money with just what I have learnt over the last few years and more importantly what I have learnt through reading other peoples blogs. I may or may not make this a long term project. I enjoy playing a lot on the other realm and can't relly spend time with both. But we will see. Who knows what the future holds.
I am very pleased with the recipe sale. I remembered while running up the road that there was a recipe only sold there so I picked up one to have a try. I wanted to keep the rest of my money in case I found something else. But I am gambled on the laziness of someone and won. And I shall try to capitalise on this in future.
Watch out, Lunchmoney is here.

Farmers Market - How to grind
Okay, this may sound odd but today I'm going to talk about how to grind.
What do you mean, how to grind? Don't you just go to the area you need to and start running repeatedly through the same instance or just keep killing everything in sight?
Well, yes you do, but I like to think there is a bit more to it than that. So let me tell you what I do and see if it will help you with your future endeavours.
There are somethings out there that, if you want them, then you are going to have to grind for them. Some are BoP items like the darter pet for the Horde, mounts in instances, certain recipes. If you want these, you have to grind for them. Some are also items very rarely found on the AH or can be quite easily got yourself. I don't think I have ever seen a captured firefly but I have ground out 2. I don't by Orbs of Deception when I know killing the rare spawns in the arena at Dire Maul will get me one eventually (well actually 3).
So, we are going to grind. We need to get setup first. And the first priority is making sure we are comfortable. I play lying on my bed with my head propped on pillows, the laptop on a chair in front of me, the keyboard and mouse positioned where my hands would lie normally. This way I am comfortable and don't have to move much. Yeah, I know, lazy of me but it does help.
Next make sure we have some sort of distraction. Something that can keep a good part of your mind occupied. I personally watch TV. I setup a number of shows I enjoy. Actually, I have watched a lot of my shows this way. And when I say watched, I mean mainly listened too. Sometimes, you'll find yourself concentrating on the TV more than the game, especially if the show is really engaging. I went through the last season of 24 in one week and there were times I completely forgot the game. Music and books are other good methods although they can be better or worse depending on your mindset. Books can be harder because they require more attention than other things. But I did go through a Harry Potter book one weekend while mining underwater in Desolace.
So, we are comfortable and have distractions. now, make sure we have refreshments. Drink and nibbles also provide a little distraction and are useful to have around. It is easy to get tunnel vision and find yourself a few hours later dreadfully thirsty.
Now, ready to grind? No, your not. The last thing you need to do is research. Make sure you know what it is you are after, where it is and that you do have a chance of getting it. No use going to kill so and so mob for a Twisted Chanter's Staff because it highest drop rate only to find out it is a world drop. Please, please, please never try to farm a world drop. Not going to happen. Just play the game normally and pay the AH price. Those are your best bets. But make sure you are in the right area, killing the right mobs and that it will still drop. Research is important.
So, now you can start farming. And I would recommend you carry on for as long as you feel you can. Take breaks every now and then, get up and stretch your legs. If it starts to get frustrating, go and do something else. Remember you are relying on a random number generator to get what you are after. It might take a while.
Also, be respectful of others. They play the game too and you might face competition if they are after the same thing you are. If it gets too bad then stop and go somewhere else. There will always be other days.
The only time I ignore this is if the others are farming bots. How do i know they are farming bots. Well, a couple of ways. Most of them are hunters although I have seen warrior and paladin bots. Hunter pets are never named. They have some old gear. But more importantly, they behave strange. The hunters in Azshara farming the elite dragonkin were moving very strangely. They were ignoring some mobs, moved in erratic paths, jumped regularly, would randomly emote a wave and never ever reacted if I stole a kill from them, which I started doing to test their bottiness. The warriors in a cave in the Storm Peaks never reacted when I skinned their kills before they did and even tried to walk through walls to get to the mobs on the other side. If you find bots, report them. Blizzard do deal with them, even if it does take a while.
And one last thing, the excess useful stuff you pick up. Sell it for money. There will be others who want it. Get as much as you can for it. Erm, except if you are on my realm. Then I just want to buy it cheap off you. What? I have to make some money somehow.

Monday Musings - New Markets?
Well, once again the weekend betrayed me in getting any posts done. I honestly did have some stuff in mind but then I got caught up in other stuff. I was out most of Saturday anyway and that can throw things out. But if I can i may even double or triple post today or tomorrow.
As I mentioned I have been lazily leveling by visiting bonfires. It speaks to a more automated play style. You fly somewhere, visit fire and fly again. This can enable you to do other stuff, in theory. Like getting setup to watch the last 2 seasons of Lost. I have been rather vocal with people about not talking about it around me.
But I should also be trying dancing around the fire poles. That combined with heirloom gear should help with leveling. Maybe devote some time to my rogue. I only have a week left.
Also, I have been wondering about stockpiling. A wonderful piece of advice from Stokpile is to buy and stock so you don't run out. And I have started doing that with certain items at certain prices. Stacks of Netherweave below 8g and Frostweave below 10g are always bought out. Started doing the same with Infinite Dust when below 2g each. And I got a number of Large Brilliant Shards yesterday at a very good price. In fact got around 60.
So what does that mean for my Warlock. Well, I am sticking with the bag market. He's still 70 so I have a while before getting into the spellthread. But I am stockpiling like crazy. I am not going to run out of bags, certainly not Frostweave. But i have gone from 2k gold on him to under 200g. Does this worry me? Well a bit but not as much as it normally would because I know that I should get it all back and more. Especially if the enchants I have started on sell. Shame that righteous orbs are going for 100g each. But i had some in storage.
Besides, I am doing well elsewhere. Pets are selling well. My engineering ones are up to 300g each in some cases. I am trying to expand a bit too.
Something I am starting to look at is the engineering market. I have a maxed out engineer so I am looking to move beyond pets. Engineering is great for quest items...
Gyrochronaton
Dealy Blunderbuss
Mithril Casing
Khorium Power Core
To name a few. Elemental Seaforium Charges will sell in lots of 4 for making the flying machine (assuming the haven't been removed). But there are some other things I have wondered about. Steam Tonk Controller for example. Someone is trying to sell them for 100g. But will they sell.
What about the lunar festival launchers and fireworks? I am on an RP realm so they might. Got to make the price worth it as they are one shots but if no-one else is selling them. So I am looking at getting into a new market with no knowledge on how it will do or how to start. Keep reading and I hope to tell you how it goes.

Weekly Roundup - 25th June
Its the end of the week so it is time to look back and see how I have doing.
First off, that Battered Hilt I have bought, well, it still isn't a blade yet. I haven't got myself to go through those three instances. Its irrational, I know, but I just don't like instancing, especially with groups I don't know. I even have issues going through with those I do know. Not sure why entirely. So I am considering that purchase a wasted one until I finally get myself sorted.
So, I am currently sitting on the following...
Horde: 23k
Alliance: 2.6k
Its only an increase of 3.5k if we are keeping score but then I have been learning something too.
Monday I spent over 1900g on herbs. I got Adder's Tongue for the amazingly low price of 14g a stack and Goldclover was below market value at around 17g a stack. In all I got 1900 Adder's Tongue and 700 Goldclover. after a lot of milling I ended up with 797 Inks of the Sea and 119 Snowfall Ink. I haven't even manage to dip into this stock yet, I am still working through a stock I built up 2 weeks ago.
So, inks aren't a problem at the moment. I am still only concentrating on the Northrend Glyphs for ease and sales are slow. I have started to make the off hand epics too and these are selling at the rate of 1-2 every other day since Monday. My Scribe has already made back the money spent on the herbs.
Pets remain a consistent seller. I have had my engineer keeping up with maintaining stock of the popular pets and I have had good sales with both a select collection from Stormspire and the Alliance. Will need to restock there soon as well.
Borean to Heavy Borean Leather is a slow sale. I keep a number up at all time but sales can be very slow. The price of normal leather is rising very high at the moment whereas the price of heavy stays low. I post all of my sales in stacks of two, mainly to aid those leatherworkers who are looking to buy to purchase the recipes.
One market I am very surprised with and will be trying to work out its swings is the bag market. During the week I am often the only seller of bags and I sell Frostweave at around 60g each and Netherweave in the region of 14g. Nearly all the money I make goes straight back into buying more stock and I take advantage of low prices. I expect the price of bags to lower during the weekend as cloth becomes cheaper so I intend to buy the cloth out, let the prices rise and go back to selling more during the week. At least, that is how I hope it plays out. Will have to see. I have been surprised of prices at times though. I normally pay up to 12g a stack of Frostweave. Midweek, I picked up a number of stacks for 3g. I'm trying to get into the idea of grabbing stock while its cheaper...
I know, I know, I have a lot of stock but then I reckon some of it is just bad stock. I need more good stock. Start whittling away the dead wood that I don't need. I have made a slow start. I am selling the Lovely Black Dresses at 50g a pop and they are moving slowly. Eventually, I'; clear more space while making money at the same time.
So, what's in the future? Well, this weekend I am a little busy, so I am not sure how much I will be getting done. I intend to lazily fly a number of mine and my GFs characters around visiting fires. It is inefficient but I find it a lazy way to make a little money but more importantly maybe put on a level or two. And I have a number of characters I will like to do that for. Beyond that, well I have some more markets I might want to look into. See what I can make and what I can get for it. And maybe use some more of my stock.
Alliance Project Report 24th June
Its time for an update on my Alliance Project. 2 weeks ago I purchased a number of Alliance only pets and cooking recipes and got them transferred over to the Horde side and did the same with Horde pets, sending them to the Alliance side. Well, I haven't done much since then beyond ensuring there is always one of each item up on the AH on each side. Now there is some work I need to do but over the last week I got into leveling the warlock and pretty much ignored a lot of other stuff.
But lets analyse what I have done so far.
I transferred the following over from the Horde to the Alliance...
Brown Snake
Black Kingsnake
Prairie Dog Whistle
Golden Dragonhawk
Red Dragonhawk
Silver Dragonhawk
I bought 12 of each and put them on the Alliance AH 1 at a time. In the last 2 weeks, I have had the following sales...
Brown Snake 6
Black Kingsnake 9
Prairie Dog Whistle 12
Golden Dragonhawk 6
Red Dragonhawk 5
Silver Dragonhawk 5
Not great sales but they are selling. I tend to put pets on for 30g unless there are other sellers in which case I undercut. The whistles I am pretty sure all sold for 30g. My sales over the last week have actually made me nearly 550g. Butin preparation for the next stage, I have been buying wool cloth and storing it ready for transfer. 275g has got me 1274 wool cloth where I hope to make 2-3 times as much Horde side selling it. Just need to get to transferring it.
I bought 4 of each of the cooking recipes sold in Stormwind by Kendor Kabonka along with 12 of each of the following...
Cat Carrier (Bombay) 6
Cat Carrier (Cornish Rex) 3
Cat Carrier (Orange Tabby) 3
Cat Carrier (Silver Tabby) 8
Rabbit Crate (Snowshoe) 8
Blue Moth Egg 6
White Moth Egg 1
Yellow Moth Egg 2
Hawk Owl 6
Great Horned Owl 8
The numbers above indicate sales over the last 2 weeks. All the cooking recipes have sold, starting at 20g each for the recipes and 30g for the pets unless being undercut again. Now, this seller has made over 4200g in the last week but hasn't just being selling those. He sells engineering pets for 100g-250g depending on the pet, various rods for enchanting and a number of meta gems made by one of my JCs utilising stock I had been siting on. I have also started selling some of the Tree Frog boxes I have got in storage while DMF is away. I have been managing to offload these at 50g each. I also have some Wood Frog Boxes but I am getting an error message when trying to put them on the AH that I can't auction an item with used charges. Heh, maybe I have kept them in the bank so long that they have died. No worries, I can look at restocking next DMF.
So, things are a little slow but at least it is a market with almost guaranteed profits. I transfer from one side to the other with no cost and sell them for much more than was paid. I want to keep the sales going Alliance side because I intend to use that money to fund the Wool market I intend on getting into very soon.

The History of... err... me! Part Three - The Rise of the Alts
Before I go more into my history in game I have a couple of things to mention about my activities this week. First, the netherweave bag market is an interesting one. No cloth on the AH at the end of the week with low bag stocks meant very high prices. Then cloth started appearing and the price of that and the bags dropped. I had bags on at 4-5 different prices over the weekend. Now, the market is fluctuating between 11-15g a bag with it looks like only 2 of us concentrating on it. I have been buying up all cheap cloth (under 7g a stack) and I now have a huge number of bags in storage. So, lets see how that plays out.
Secondly, on Monday someone put a bunch of herbs on cheap. And I mean cheap. Adder's Tongue at 14g a stack when I normally never buy above 20g and a number of others below market vlaue. I bought the entire lot of Adder's Tongue and the only other item was Goldclover at around 16-17g when it is normally at 19 or higher. We rarely see the low end herbs drop below 19g and high end are normally at 21+. So I spent around 1900g and ended up with 1900 Adder's Tongue and 700 Goldclover. I ignored the rest of his postings even though they were below market. Net result, a long time converting to inks and something to talk about on Friday.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't remember much of my early attempts at alts. Oh, I eventually had all character slots for the server I was on full but that took time. but I was never really an altoholic. Not then. Now? well, I have 3 80's and am working on 4, 5 and 6 with 7 and 8 on hold. One day I will cover them but today I will tell you about when I first started on other characters. Comfortable? Lets begin...
I was leveling Brogan. And it was slow. Those who remember vanilla wow will remember how slow. Nothing like today. It was really slow. My Brother-in-Law invited me to his guild. He had been playing for a while longer and he had been asked by a bunch of night elves to help create a guild. He was playing a night elf priest at the time. So, they created this guild and called it Tremors. Don't ask me why. But one day, BiL asked if I wanted to join the guild. Another new experience, I thought, sure why not. So, this plucky little dwarf was invited to the guild. Now, I don't know if he was guild leader then or if that occured later. The officers eventually moved to other guilds and BiL was given leadership as he was the only officer left. I suspect it was done a while after I joined.
So I was in a guild. Wow, new people to meet and at times play with. We were a fairly casual guild and would help out each other in whatever way we could when we could. I remember being involved in a couple of guild instance runs. I never really instanced much back then and still don't now. But I remember that it could be fun but then also quite annoying. There was the infamous Uldaman run. All guildies, my BiL the priest, our warrior, and three hunters. All the others were night elves and I was the only dwarf. I still have a screenshot of us ready to go in. But what I remember most was that the other 2 hunters were of the right level and the rest of us higher. So we left loot for the other two. And one hunter always rolled need.Yeah, right. Every loot is hunter loot. It turned out that the hunter pressed the dice button because that is the one to roll. We had to explain to him the difference between need and greed.
Soon, I had real life friends start playing and they came onto my server too. a couple had been long time players and played on Argent Dawn, a heavy RP server in the EU at the time. So, I had people I knew in real life in the guild I was in. I was an officer by now and started putting more into the guild. I created a website and forum for their use, started getting people to help each other with professions and all. It was a fun job, well most of the time. But sometimes I wanted to be alone, not be bothered by anyone. And so I made some other characters where I wouldn't be disturbed. Plus, I could have them learn different professions to Brogan and make these available to myself and eventually the guild. I also was running into space issues as I found my bank filling up with the stuff I was keeping and so had quickly learnt the advantage of bank characters too.
These alts didn't get very far. The highest got to around 23 or 24 but most never got higher than 20. Like I said, it was slow leveling back then. But I did work on professions. I had a blacksmith being supplied ore by Brogan. I had a tailor and enchanter who got materials, again, from Brogan. My leatherworker/skinner had to go out and do the work himself. But I was learning about how I could support other professions through interacting with characters and through using the stuff I would stockpile. And I kept a lot. Not as much as today but even then in pre-guild bank days, it was impressive. One day, I will go back and have a look at what I have stored. Its been while and not sure whats left after The Transfer. More about that later.
And then a new holiday was added in WoW. It was February and Valentines had come to Azeroth. I remember the holiday well. Back then you were required to apply perfume or cologne, talk to NPCs with hearts over their heads and give them a token. You would then get an item back, these would be combined and combined again and then given to little goblins next to the faction leaders. It meant running around the cities gathering. But there were problems. Oh, I remember in Stormwind there was only one guard you could talk to and he was camped constantly by all of us. And then he got drawn into the fight with a Servant from the Blasted Lands who had been kited there. But there was a different issue in other cities. I found that certain people would only respond to perfume. For that I created some level one female alts and had them run to the cities to gather the bits Brogan needed. I hadn't even considered using perfume on Brogan. And so I ended up with even more bank alts. And these new characters were used to store even more.
My empire was growing, but for how long...

Farmers Market - Outland Enchanting Recipes
Now, I mentioned yesterday how I didn't have any ideas for the market post but came up with two by the end of the sunday. Well, while writing my Musings I came up with this one. I decided to write about this instead of the other two topics that I would leave for another day, should I remember them.
I mentioned getting an enchanting recipe while questiing on Sunday. I had forgotten that in the higher zones in Outland that there were profession only BoP recipe drops. Thinking about it now I remember having my engineer grinding for them but since Wrath came out I think they have been all but forgotten. So this post will be about what enchanting recipes are out there that can be found from grinding mobs in Outland. I may include the Instance one even though I rarely go after those except for the occasional Vanilla ones. I'll cover other professions in other posts.
But grinding for recipes? Farming? Isn't that boring? Well, honestly, yes. It can be. And tedious. And frustrating. I have farmed a lot in my time. And I couldn't do it without TV. I lie on my bed, prop my head on the pillow and mindlessly grind with most of my attention on watching something. I have gone through a lot of shows doing that. And playing a hunter helped. My BiL noticed that at times I only pressed two keys and left it at that. I would bind pet attack and hunters mark to one key and a shot or sting to others and I would press the first followed by one of the others and then just let autoshot finish it. It meant I didn't have to apply as much attention as needed. And that has progressed through a lot of my playing. As long as I didn't have to read anything, I would just press certain keys and be watching my shows. Certain classes need a little more attention depending on the class, play style and situation.
But for farming I mainly used my hunter. And playing the hunter got me playing more. I have 4 on one realm. They are really easy to play. And make great farmers. Which is why you would often seen them used in Azshara by bots. Would drive me wild seeing the bots farming in areas I was trying to farm.
But if you wish to attempt farming, then please. Put something on in the background that can occupy part of your mind otherwise you are going to get annoyed and not get anywhere. Of course there are others that will say don't farm in the first place but some things you can only get through farming, whether rep or specific items. That is, of course, if you really need it.
Anyway, as promised, a list of the recipes and where to find them...

Monday Musings - The Levelling Bug
I haven't done a Farmers Market post for yesterday yet. A couple of reasons really. Partly I had a headache for a good part of yesterday, which honestly didn't stop me from playing. I didn't have a subject at the time either although now I have two ideas to discuss. Must remember them and I will try to do a farmers market tomorrow. But mainly I was too busy levelling my warlock.
I am very much an altoholic and even more so recently. And the heirloom gear is just great for them. I recently went on an heirloom binge and have the cloth, leather dps and plate chest and shoulders as well as both trinkets, dagger, bow, 1 and 2h maces and staff. Been great not having to worry about the various gear items. Okay, it did take a while to get them through the tournament dailies but I'm a farmer. Its what I do.
I got my warlock to 62 through doing a load of the Argent Dawn quests and am now 5000 from revered. Will try to persuade my GF to run through Scholo and Strath at some point perhaps. I then went through HFP, Zang and Terrokar before ending in Nagrand at 69 where I did the Nessingway and Consortium. I then concentrated on the rest of the Consortium and got to both honoured and 70.
SO, what’s next for the warlock. Well, its not Northrend, not yet. I'm going to do the Shattered Sun dailies, maybe all the way to Exalted and go and do starting area quests. I want to get my city reps to Exalted or close enough. But why do the SS quests? I do have a reason to my madness and it is due to a method I had to make me money. Not for everyone but it comes down to getting money instead of XP at 80. I'll go into more detail in a later post and again, it isn't for everyone but there may be some who will appreciate it.
So, the warlock has some purpose to him before Northrend. In the meantime I have a paladin at 55 who is on a sort of hiatus because my GF mentioned how I kept overtaking her and I'm going to let her level hers a little more first. Besides I have a rogue in the early 30s I need to work on more. And its slow levelling the rogue. Okay, I'm combat spec for ease but it still seems slower than the other two. Plus I seem to have had more fun levelling the paladin and warlock. And if my GF will let me, I also have my death knight too. I'll give a rundown of my characters in a later post.
I noticed something else yesterday that I had forgotten about with TBC, mainly because of the changes to improve levelling. When you level you normally hit 70 in Nagrand. Of course some head for Northrend at 68 but I am a person of habit. I never go to Outland before 60 and Northrend before 70. But even so, you tend to end in Nagrand at 70 at which point you go to Northrend. Because I was working on Consortium I found myself in Netherstorm killing mobs for quests. And an enchanting recipe dropped. I had forgotten that there were profession only drops in high Outland zones. Okay, the one I got yesterday was only shadow resistance on cloak but it got me thinking. What other recipes were there? In a later post I will try to work on some lists for those who are interested. I may have to try and do them earlier than later but we'll have to see what interesting items are out there.

Confessions of a Pack Rat - The Scribe
Before I get onto the Confessions, just want to go over a couple of things that have happened recently. I usually run the tournament dailies on the 80s every day without fail, but since the server shutdown on Wednesday, I have yet to restart them. I will, I know because I want more stuff from Seal purchases. More, I tell you MOAR. In fact Wednesday and Thursday I didn't really do much in game anyway. Friday I decided to work on my warlock more. He was around 62-63 and had only just started in HFP. Got him to 65 last night and immediately got on with leveling tailoring. I had been stockpiling frostweave ready for that and very quickly got to the point where I was making bags and selling them. Even so I had spent almost 1000g just skilling up and purchasing a few things I needed. Happy to see I had nearly 600g in sales on another character.
Another thing I wanted to mention is I often play with the TV on. I prefer to watch shows at my pace. Well, this week was spent catching up with 24. I had only watched the first two episodes of the latest series when it was shown so I watched the whole series this week. Literally just finished watching. WOW. What a ride. And if 24 episodes in a week seems excessive, well I bought the first six seasons on DVD a while back and I went through the lot in 2 weeks. That's excessive.
So, on to the Confessions. I thought I would show the guild bank of the Scribe to start with so you can see what I work with in terms of storage and stock. And it is an interesting bank this one. The character originally started with leatherworking and skinning and moved to Inscription only a short while ago when I was leveling him through Outland and Northrend. At the time his bank was and still is being used for other materials...

As you can see the first three tabs mainly have clothes. Particularly dresses. And there is a good reason for this. Honest. You see, I play on an RP server and my thought s were to cash in on that by selling items used for RP. So I gathered a lot up... And sat on them. I just never got around to doing anything with them. I have slowly started to make a few forays into that market, particularly with the first tab. That whole first lot of dresses, they are all Lovely Black Dresses obtained from Valentines, and not one of them were bought. 20 characters farming the festival everyday for the whole event for two years!!! That's the result with a few on other characters (everyone of my GFs characters has one). They are currently selling for around 50g each so I am slowly selling them on. Don't want to flood the market. I will be looking at doing the same with the other items too.
The tab with glyphs and scrolls were the ones made through leveling and Northrend Research. Again, I store intending to use but nothing happens with them. The glyphs I will keep for Cataclysm as they are low sellers on my market but hoping for an increase come Cataclysm.
And as an aside, I had plans for the clothes. I had an idea of creating an RP market on the Horde side. It was an idea I had been contemplating for a while but never got the drive to get it off the ground. Sometime in the future I may put my ideas down for it, what it would sell. I know it probably wouldn't get as many returns as the AH but might be interested in seeing whether it would work. One day, maybe.

Weekly Roundup - 18th June
Okay, time to go over how the last week has been.
First, let me start by saying my community sucks. I have been getting into the glyph market and boy does it just happen to be really tough. There are already several glyph sellers and a couple of them cancel and repost dropping the price by a couple of coppers, usually just after I have posted all mine up. When it started it got me a little worked up at first but now I am resigned to the fact that its going to happen.
But I have still managed to make something with it. My scribe already has more than when he started and in the week and a half I have been at this I have also purchased every Glyph Mastery book I needed as well as some Frozen Orbs for making offhands. The market is pretty fierce and herbs are seriously overpriced and in short supply. I was going to try to do this just with AH purchases but if my ink stocks get low, I am going to have to farm. I have been selling only glyphs made with IotS along with a few vellums. I have had one offhand sell (I only have one of each on the AH) after a couple of repostings.
My best seller hands down have been Netherweave Bags. I am out of stock. I went up buying stacks of cloth for 6.5g and relisting the bags for 11-12g each. Buy Thursday all the cloth had gone from the AH and now its up to 10g a stack and more. Bags are now selling for around 18g each. Going to try and sell for a little under this to see what happens. Tomorrow I will be keeping an eye on the netherweave market to keep an eye out for my usual prices to snap up cloth. I expect people who are leveling through Outland to post more over the weekened but we will see.
My leatherworker has been doing a nice business buying Borean Leather to resell as Heavy Borean. Again, there has been a scarcity of leather at reasonable prices but he did buy some heavy going cheap and relisted. Hope that turns a profit.
My mix auctioneer has been doing some good sales too. He is a blacksmith who sells rods along with a variety of pets and recipes. Nearly all the recipes that were transferred last week have gone. The pets have been a bit hit and miss. Some sold very well whereas others not so much. My best seller has been the Brown Rabbit Crate from Netherstorm. 9 sold since I started.
I have also placed a few miscellaneous items on. Things that were in storage and took advantage of people looking to buy. I haven't had much luck in the way of auditing whats going in and out but I installed Auditor on Sunday so hope to be better in the near future. But I had noted that on Saturday my balance was as follows...
Horde: 22.5k
Alliance: 1.8k
Now it is...
Horde: 19.7k
Alliance: 2.3k
So, I am down over 2k over the last week. But I did go and buy a Battered Hilt on Tuesday for 9.5k so that does put me at making around 1k a day. Hoping to do better in the future but lets just see.

Alliance Project Report 17th June
Well, last week I started on my Alliance Project. I had been clearing out the guild bank of all the stuff I had in there for a good couple of years. I stuck it on the AH letting Auctioneer undercut with default settings for 4 days and then lowered the price drastically for the last day or so before vendoring what remained. I could have kept trying but I wanted the space. I then had my dwarf hunter visit all the pet vendors, picking up 12 of each pet that were only available to the Alliance, which is nearly all of them if I remember right. He then visited the cooking recipe vendor in Stormwind, buying 4 of each Ally only recipe. I then had a character on the GFs account do the same Horde side getting a much smaller collection. Once again I see things in favour of the Alliance, grrrrrr.
Then very late Friday night, both characters visited the AH in Booty Bay and an hour was spent transferring goods from one faction to another and vice versa. The ability of Auctioneer to buyout with a click is amazing, once you know its there (thank you Stokpile for pointing this out).
The recipes were posted on the AH one at a time for around 20g buyout when there isn’t competition, of which there is little. The pets have a maximum price of 30g, again when there isn’t competition but when others are being sold the price can drop to as low as 10g. Some pets are selling better than others. I also picked up 3 of the pets from Stormspire and am selling them for around 30g each to.
It seems that I am not doing too badly creating capital Alliance side for future purchases. I had 1500g when I started clearing stuff out and I am now up to over 2200g. Not too shabby I must say for selling pets. I am now looking for other markets that are only available to the Horde the Alliance might appreciate. I am also buying up wool cloth and am going to try moving that over too. Anything to make more revenue on the Horde side.
As to profits Horde side from this venture, well I’m not sure at the moment. Alliance item sells have been mixed in with sales of items I have made with Horde characters. I am looking for something to keep accurate records but haven’t found anything yet.

The History of... err... me! Part Two - Farming
So, on with the story telling. Are we all sitting comfortably? Good. Now where was I. Ah yes...
So there I am playing Brogan, the dwarven hunter. I think looking back on it I definately wasn't a good hunter. I remember I had taken primarily Beast Mastery but I have no idea what my spec was. I remember that I had specced for Aimed shot and this was often what I opened with, after I had sent my pet in. I primarily used that, arcane shot and serpent sting and was annoyed that aimed shot and arcane shot used the same cooldown. I didn't use much else. Didn't blow any other cooldowns. I used the same approach to hoarding things as I used to abilities. I never knew when I would need them and so never used them. Looking back now, I shudder at how bad a hunter I was. Yep, I was a huntard.
Profession wise, well I started with leatherworking and skinning but soon very quickly switched to engineering and mining. I thought it would be a better approach because I could make my own guns and ammo. And of course engineering had such fun gadgets too. But I soon realised I could make money with mining. Oh, and when I found out I was just so pleased. I would gather ore from every node I came across. I would often end up with a surplas of ore. Well, this could be sold to a vendor but I discovered that if I smelted it first, well the vendors paid more for that. I was so pleased. I would go out, mine, smelt, vend, rince and repeat. I must have looked so proud when I told my friends about the two gold I had made vending copper bars. I dread to think what their thoughts were. They then explained to me, carefully I reckon, all abou the auction house. Auction house? Somewhere where players can buy from others? Where copper bars go for over a gold a stack???
So when I next logged on I ran to this mysterious place that was situated opposite the bank in Ironforge. This was when there was only one auction house per faction. I looked up the price of copper and saw what people had put it up for. I was new to this game and I proceeded to ensure that my bars were always the cheapest. I would almost always sell them for 60-80s a stack. Sure there were higher prices but I wanted mine to sell. Always. I had no knowledge about market trends, about when was best to post, that sometimes it is best to keep at a set value because they would nearly always sell. And for a while I made a small amount of money supplying copper to others.
And that was about as far as I would go. I remember I used to farm in Loch Moden along the eastern edge because mining was good there. I would also get tin and would try my hand at selling bronze. But it was a lot of work for small payouts. But I had got a taste of farming and I was good at it.
How else was I as a player. Well, I loved my engineering. I remember when I got the schematic for the Parachute Cloak. Don't remember how but I do remember that I was really pleased when I finally made one. At last, no more damage from falling. I put on my nice new cloak and went riding out of Ironforge. I just had to put this to the test. And I rode off the cliff and went falling down to impact at the bottom. I survived, just, so I rode back up to the top, ate and considered the problem. Maybe it didn't work if I was mounted. Ok, try again. Once I was at full health, I ran off the cliff and went splat again. What was wrong? I mounted up, went back up to the top, ate, and examined the cloak carefully. It was then I realised that I needed to actually use it. Ah hah! Right, I ran off the cliff, activated the cloak, floated down to a ledge, kept running and fell the rest of the way because the cloak had stopped working. Well, at least I knew how to use it. It wasn't until many years later I learnt to map the cloak to a key for a panic button for emergencies. That was on another character by then. But I wore that cloak all the way to level 60 and beyond. I never replaced it. You never knew when Brogan was going to fall.
So, I was a bad player but I learnt things. Admittedly a little slowly. But I had also learnt that I could farm. And, as time went on, I found I was really really good at it...

Taking advantage of the situation
I play wow a lot. Really. A lot. Probably too much with all honesty. So imagine the thought of being without it for an entire evening. That's whats facing me tomorrow when I get in from work. My server is one of the ones offline for 24 hours to prep it for Cataclysm.
So, I am wowless for an evening. Not a complete loss. I now no longer have an excuse to put off a couple of things that have been hanging over me for a while. Plus I might also get a number a posts written in advance for this blog. All in all it is probably a good thing for me to take a break.
But tonight I am going to see if I can cash in on it. Going to hit the auction house and see if I can get some bargains through bidding. Place bids on items that will hopefully expire during the downtime. Don't know who else has thought about this but I may be able to turn this downtime to my favour.
Fingers crossed.

Monday Musings - 1c
Welcome to Monday Musings where I will comment about stuff and discuss general things.
1c
I started my auctioning last week and entered into the glyph market. By the weekend I had some sales, not great but there we are. I had just started. Anyway, can't remember what it was that had me do it but I decided to do a scan of glyphs with mine up and I had been undercut on more than few. And undercut by a copper. By one person. Other glyphs of mine which he wasn't listing were under bid by another person for about 10s. Added them to friends and noticed that when I cancelled and relisted, the 1c guy very quickly cancelled and relisted too.
This got me a little annoyed. Sure, I was getting a few sales but I know he was probably getting a lot more of what should rightfully have been mine. So I started playing with the settings of QA3 and relisted. Sure enough, soon I was underbid by 1c and then by 10s. I know this are different people, at least I think so.
Anyway, last night I decided to take a couple of different approaches. This isn't something to get worked up over. Its just a game and wishing for my competitors computers to explode isn't going to get me anywhere. So I will adjusting my efforts and seeing where I end up.
Glyphs go bye bye?
I was talking to my Brother-in-Law yesterday and he mentioned reading some news about Cataclysm, specifically that Path of the Titans was out and the glyph changes. When he told me that I immediately responded with,"That's the biggest market gone." He mentioned seeing comments saying the same. So I read the posting about it and thought... Great, I have just tried to enter the market and it is being taken away from me, and those annoying under bidders will get it.
But I took some time to think about it later when the fuming had stopped. True, I won't be selling the same amounts of glyphs any more but I'm not at the moment anyway. But there will be those who want all the other glyphs on top of what they have. Those less wanted ones might sell. Also, who knows what changes will happen to existing ones. And then there's all the new medium glyphs. So, maybe there still will be a market. Besides, I'm leveling 3 toons at the moment. I need glyphs. Won't others. Will there be room for me? Lets wait and see.
Sparkle pony
When the Celestial Steed was added, I kept quiet. I knew my girlfriend would want one. And I was playing when she logged a while after it was added. So I heard the "awwww, what's that? Its purrrrtttttyyyyy. I want one." I explained you bought it from the store and explained how much, and that was it. Except whenever she saw one I would hear the comments. And how many people have one?
Anyway, she did some nice things for me recently. Me for her too, I must add. I got her the pets from Stormspire for some of her characters and she sent me some real life presents. And then she bought me a White Kitten in game. I mentioned then I was keeping an eye out for them to sell and she insisted I kept it for myself.
So I decided I would get her the Sparkle Pony. Bought it yesterday while she was sleeping and got it sorted on her account. To say she was surprised when she found it in the mail is an understatement. She had no idea where it had come from at first. But she loves it and what more can I say. I also finally got around to redeeming the Murloc Marine that came with last years Blizzcon feed I had purchased with her account last year. That's another thing she loved as well.
Mage Portals
I have decided when Cataclysm comes out that I would probably level a goblin mage. I don't have a mage on my account and it would be a help to my GF being able to portal her to places I have got to. She has mage at 70 so that means I can get my characters to Shattrath with her help but that doesn't help her... Until last night.
I had been thinking about her mage and her other characters. I have noticed that when you log off, the character stays in group. With that in mind I logged one of my characters and she, one of her low levels. I invited her to group, she then relogged to the mage, created a portal, relogged back....
And then I realised I had forgotten to add the mage to the group. So back to the mage, join group, create portal, relog and the lower level was off to Shattrath. Useful to know for future use. Not sure how it plays into taking advantage of loophole, but at least we have a way to get her characters through portals, even if it is a little fiddly.

Farmers Market - Thorium
Welcome to Farmers Market, a series I will be trying to run on a Sunday. Within it I shall be posting my tips and observations regarding farming for materials either you need or can then sell. I know, I know it is better to purchase a lot of these from the AH but sometimes it is easy or cheaper to get them yourself. Of course, someone has to farm them to put them on the AH anyway.
So today we are going to discuss Thorium. I used to hate hunting this stuff down but did have a favourite farming spot. I personally would go circling around the outside of Burning Steppes. I had a path I would take that I had developed over time and repetition, a route I knew off by heart. I preferred this location as it wasn't heavily visited, at least certainly not by the Horde.
Now my Brother-in-Law always preferred Silithis as he would run through the hives. Apparently that made for good mining but I hated having to move through there on foot. But he had his favourite and I had mine.
But now there is a new contender. Un'Goro Crater. This is somewhere I used to mine before I got tired of the low numbers of Rich veins. However, there have been some major changes. Rich and Small veins are abundant.
Just ride around the outside of the crater and you can't miss them. A lot of other people know about this location so you may find competition tough but the respawn rate is phenomenal. I have several time rode away from a vein only to find a new one has spawned there immediately or nearby. I have also found at times two or three nodes next to each other. Gatherings are rich along with high end Azeroth gems and Arcane Crystals. You may find nodes that are stripped of everything but dense stone, which is very annoying I know, but I grab everything. You never know when you are going to need large amounts of stone either.
So, happy farming.

Confessions of a Pack Rat
I am a pack rat. This is a flaw I recognise and it affects me at work, home and in game. I don't like to throw stuff out. I often believe that it is stuff that I can use at a later date. Sometimes this is quite helpful and has stood me well. There have been times at work that I have been able to fix a problem with something I have in the back of the car. I have upgraded a computer with a stick of memory I had in the glove compartment. I often have spare keyboards or mice. And this has also been true in game.
I never throw anything away. Ever. My usual routine while playing is to run around doing a load of quests and pick everything up as I go along. When I hand in the quests I then also go through the bags and sort out everything. Anything that is used by professions gets sent to the relevant character to place into his/her respective guild bank. I use Altoholic to know what amounts of stuff I have but I innately know who looks after what. It has become ingrained. My GF knows that I store stuff so she will ask does anyone have any *item*. If it is on my account then I am able to check and tell her how many through Altoholic but if its her account I have to tell her which character to log. I did have Altoholic transfer the information from her account to mine about a month ago but I need to update it. With the amount it has it takes 15+ minutes if I remember right to get everything over, including guild banks.
So, anything that is profession related gets stored. So too is anything quest or rep related. I have complete sets of Hills of Stranglethorn. Probably around 5 or more with over 12 of some pages. Again, the GF knows I have access to all this and she will ask whether I have something or other. The last three characters I leveled (still am) and her last one both had the complete Hills as soon as they entered STV and immediately had that quest line completed for quick and easy XP. Then any pages they picked up got sent to the storage area again.
I pick up all greys as well. People can forget that money can be made from vendoring them. Grey weapons sell for over a gold each eventually as you level and late in the game entire stacks of grey items sell for golds. I pick them all up and sell nearly all of them!!!
I say nearly all of them because I do sometimes keep some. I play on an RP server and used to RP a lot in the past. I am starting to get back into it again with the insistence of my GF but slowly. However, for a good couple of years I have stored what amounts to be in a lot of cases junk. I have items that have no purpose than to take up inventory space but keep them because of what they are and carrying them can add realism. Sure, they are useless, sure they can be sold for gold but then they have a small RP value. In future posts you will see the junk I have.
I have gathered a lot in my travels and have stored a lot of it. In future posts I will go into each of the storage locations I have and cover what I have. I will try to include screenshots so you can see the lengths I have gone to. Seriously, there have been no limits for this pack rat.

The Alliance Project - Everything must go
This would normally be posted on a Thursday but as was mentioned yesterday, this weeks posts have been swapped, so...
I think I mentioned I have a single Alliance character on the server I play. At some point my Wednesday history post will reveal more details about him but what it means that on a server where I predominately play Horde, I do have access to the Alliance market. The guy is a dwarven hunter with skinning and leatherworking and has his own guild with two bank tabs.
Now I have a plan for this character. I am going to use him to access the Alliance AH and should be able to use him to get some materials cheaper. Maybe. I believe that my server has a larger Alliance pop than Horde, I knew that was the case a year or two ago and believe it still to be. So there may be some things cheaper there. Somethings I can pick up and put on the Neutral AH for my GFs account to pick up instantly. Do what I call the Alliance Shuffle.
It is a fairly well known method. Place an item cheap on one faction and have the other buy it as soon as it is posted. Works best when you are using computers next to each other. Sure, there is a small window of opportunity when someone camping the neutral AH looking for this to use addons to grab it quickly but hasn't happened to me so far. I place the item for 1c bid and buyout and that way the AH doesn't take a cut.
And this is part of the crux of the issue I have, the neutral AH cut. Its 15%. At the moment I have over 20,000g on Horde and 1600g on Alliance. If I need money on Alliance, I could place something very high on there and buy it with Horde, but that means losing 15% to the cut. I could also find someone on the Alliance side with characters Horde side, give them money on Horde and get them to give me the same on Alliance. But that means finding someone who you can trust as much as they can trust you.
So I have come up with an idea. I am going to try and get into the markers on the Alliance side, but slowly. And I am looking at a very specific market to start with. I am going to try and enter the pet market. My plan, buy a number of the Horde pets, send them to the Alliance and sell them there while also doing the reverse with the Alliance pets. For this, I need storage.
I mentioned I had two guild bank tabs. Well, these are full, or at least were. My dwarf is only level 70. I have hardly played him since leveling up in TBC to get a leatherworker. He has two bank tabs full of things like TBC raw food and greens, crafting materials and the like. So I am sticking these on the AH and trying to get shot of them. Some I have put up very cheaply whereas others are cutting current sellers. I am trying to get rid of them all while trying to make a little at the same time. Some of these things have sold, others are still sitting there. I have already made over 100g selling this stuff and I may give it another week before putting everything up as cheap as possible without vending just so I then have the space.
I have already started on stage two too. I have gone around all the Alliance pet vendors and bought 12 of each. I need to do the same Horde side and then get two characters to the neutral AH, Booty Bay more than likely. The dwarf sits in Stormwind most of the time so it is a short flight there. Horde side, my GF has a mage at 71 who teleports to Stonard and flies the rest of the way. For stage two to complete, I need to ensure I have space Horde side for my Alliance stock of pets and clear out the dwarfs bank ready for storage and selling. I hope to make steady income there to support any future purchases I may need to make in the future.
Something else I will be looking at doing as part of the Alliance Shuffle is cash in on what I have always considered an unfairness in the balance of Alliance/Horde. There are a number of cooking recipes that are only available to Alliance characters that are sold in Stormwind. Once I have created more space Horde side, I will be buying a large amount and moving them over.
Thursday night will be discussing the Alliance Project and hopefully by next week some progress will have been made on this.

Weekly Roundup
Well, normally I would be writing this on a Friday, at least thats what my plan is. On a Friday I will write my views on my success of the past week and observations. Normally on a Thursday I plan on writing about my Alliance Project. I wrote out the post earlier today and left it on another computer. So I shall be trying to post that tomorrow instead of re-writing it tonight.
It is quite fortunate that I am writing this today as Stockpile posted an interesting post on farming that youu can read here. It was part of something I was going to touch on today. I have been a little disheartened this week. I have been at the AH game for a little over a week now but have only been trying the glyph market for about 3-4 days. I have been creating glyphs and posting them using QA3 and, although I may have not a huge amount on there (I started around 50 and started posting around 100 after a day or two, I would be getting 5-10 sales a day.
Now, I started looking at purchasing any IotS and herbs that I could but have been unhappy with what I have found. I struck it luckily earlier with getting 200 IotS at 1.9g each but since then I have only seen them for over 5g each. And whenit comes to herbs it is even worse. I have taken Stockpile's rule of buying lowend NR herbs at 15g a stack and highend for 20g or less. And pickings have been very slim. Oh, I bought a huge amount of Adder's Tongue today at 20g a stack. Huge! And got about 5 stacks of Icethorn for less than that but other than that, prices have been very high for small amounts most of the week. Today, a search on herbs have revealed 12 pages in total. Yesterday, it was 8-9. And that got me thinking.
I've heard that Blizzard have cracked down on farmers. I know that will hit the market but I am wondering if it is to do with the realm I am on. I play on an RP realm and the last time I checked Alliance outnumbered the Horde 3:1. I know the realm also went through some fluctuations in population too. It could be that we don't have a large number of farmers on our side. It could also be that I am catching the AH at a time when the posted stocks are thin and the farmers haven't replenished. I suspect I am going to need to learn how to keep an eye on fluctuations.
But then maybe it is like what was posted elsewhere. Prices fluctuate. Maybe I am in one of those upswings and I just need to wait for stock to rise and prices to fall.
So, overall, how have I been doing? I started the week with more money than the end of the week but then I am doing daily quests in the tournament. My scribe is down in funds but then he has over 300 IotS in the bank and over 300 glyphs on the AH. Just got to hope they sell. My enchanter is doing small business with the odd scroll sale but I need to increase his output. Time to start looking into the enchanting business. He makes a small sideline in netherweave bags as well but only when cloth is around 4g. I may buy at 5 seeing as bags are selling around 10g each. And my mid-level blacksmith sells the odd rod and occasional engineering pet he has in storage.
Sales are slow but diverse. The keeps dipping a little deeper in. I can say I am entering the market slowly, just have to see if the market accepts me.

The History of... err... me! Part One
Exciting I know. History of an insignificant player in the wide scheme of things but I wish to explain how I have played in the past and how things have changed. How I have become (I hope) a better player and continue to do so. I also thought it would be apt to make Wednesday the day I would go into the history. Apt because over here in the UK Wednesday is patch day. Now it is true that when I get home the servers are all back up but that wasn't always the case in the past.
It all started back in 2005. My brother-in-law had been talking about this new game he was playing online called World of Warcraft. I had heard about it. I had some friends play it too, quite avidly but I had managed to avoid it. I had generally avoided online games, partly because until about a year before I only had dial-up Internet access (I know!!!) and because I had generally resisted them. However, he asked if I would be interested in getting a copy for my birthday and Christmas and possibly even getting it as an early present so he had someone he knew from real life to play with.
Well, I was quite happy with that. And so I waited until November 15th 2005. A Tuesday. I had my copy of the game. My account was created. It was installed and patched and I was ready to go. I started the game and that wonderful animation started and...
A quick diversion here. I play role playing games. Have done since my early teens. And at the time I was heavily enjoying 3rd edition Dungeons and Dragons. I had a number of different characters I enjoyed playing but I was particularly fond of my first one. He was a dwarf but a rather unusual one. He was a warrior and went by the name Brogan Ironhammer. Now this will immediately reveal who I am to those out there who know me but then kudos to them for reading this.
So, anyway, the animation started and I was just blown away. There was this dwarf. And he had a gun. And a bear. And wow. So I quickly logged in, selected the realm my BiL played on and set about creating a Dwarven Hunter called Brogan.
Was I a good hunter? Well lets just put it this way. My BiL was very very lucky. He happened to have the Fiery War Axe drop for him in STV. You have know idea how much I begged, pleaded and offered to get that axe off him. I offered to support his professions for I don't how long. I just wanted that axe. I mean, I was a dwarf and I could use axes. It would be perfect for me. At least I thought so then. Now. Well, I believe the expression is /facepalm. If you are unaware what I am talking about, go on Wowhead and look it up. If you still don't understand, then I direct you to the above expression.
Fortunately for him, he did the right thing and sold it on the auction house. It payed for his mount training at level 40 (for you young uns out there, that was when you initially learnt the riding skill and it cost 100g. And don't get us started on epic riding.)
Have I got better since then? I like to think so. Do you think I have got better? Well, you can judge for yourself over future historical updates.

Testing the water further
Well, I wasn't planning to post this late and wasn't planning to write this particular post either. Things didn't quite go as I planned today. Even if I didn't have full plans but there were a few.
Got home after a very very tiring day at work and was just planning to collapse in front of WoW with not much planned. That was put on hold when I found I had received a couple of parcels from my girlfriend. Very pleasing contents and that meant that I didn't get on until a little later than planned. Game time was further delayed by running auction scans.
Ran through my usual routine of tournament dailies (more about that in a later post). This meant that it was later in the evening than I had planned when I considered doing something beyond my normal routine. Recently I have been leveling 3 characters but in the last week I have started on the auction house. So instead of trying to put another level or two on my rogue, I ran through my characters and auctions.
I have been having pretty good luck with selling Lifelike Mechanical Toads mainly with the occasional sale of Lil Smoky's and Pet Bomblings. Likewise with the occasional Weapon Enchant scrolls. I buy up Netherweave Cloth if it is 4-5g or less a stack and convert it to bags.
I then had another crack at the glyph market. I made a number of Death Knight Glyphs following guidelines set out by Stockpile. I setup Quick Auctions 3 to do my postings and put up 80 glyphs in total. Going to see how they do over the next day. Need to work on inks but herb prices are a little high I think and not in particularly large numbers, at least when I have checked.
I logged to my one and only Alliance character and started working more on another project. I will go into more detail in a later post. Took me a little to get stuff done on there and then logged back to check the auctions again. Just a quick check before logging off. I am actually writing this while checking. I saw some of the glyphs had sold and thought to check for inks. I pick up 200 Inks of the Sea going for 38 gold a stack. Thats 1.9g an ink. Thought is was a good deal and went for it. I am now a little better stocked and will have to remember to keep checking. I may see about converting those into other glyphs tomorrow and expand my market a bit. But I think thats me done for the night.

Dipping in my toe
I said that I was encouraged to do this by reading other Bloggers, particularly Stockpile. Let me explain a little better. I read WoW.com near enough daily. From here I found out about the gold bloggers. Those who talk about tricks involving the auction house and how to play it to make money. I dabbled a bit using the odd trick or too but never really gave it a go. I carried on reading the odd blog but didn't do much about it.
Roll forward to last week. I visit the blogs again. First time in a few months and I read about this other blog. One where the blogger hasn't just made a lot of money but an obscene amount of money, at least to me. And he describes very well how he went about it. So I thought I would try and see how I did.
Okay to start with, my capital. Well, I started with over 15,000g. Not sure exactly how much. And how much of this have I invested into getting started? I would probably say less than 500g. Why so little. Well, I am testing the waters. Trying out a few of the tricks. And if I find that some of this is working well, well, more will be spent to make more. But the other reason so little was spent is that I already have large stocks of materials. Every character on my account on the realm I play has his own private guild and each guild has 2-5 bank tabs. I have 40 bank tabs in total. And my girlfriends account has some additional private guilds of her own as well as being in two of my guilds (or me in hers if you want to be more accurate) amounting to an additional 25 tabs. That is 65 bank tabs in total. Not all of them are full but there are largish stocks of some items. And these have been gathered for our own private use.
You see, anything I pick up that can be used I usually store for later use. Got some raw meat? Send it to the guy who holds that. How about that cloth? off to the tailors it goes. What about those raw gems? Send them to the jewelers for storing for a time we need a specific gem cut. Yep, that's right. Thousands of gold worth of stuff just sitting there. In some cases I have been storing some stuff for years. Ready for when I need it.
How many people here are reading this in disbelief? Hands up! Okay, I lost count. Now, there was a method to my madness. I have lots of alts. Between me and my girlfriend we have 20 characters that need leveling and all need their professions leveling. They may also need specific items made by others. By having the items to hand I have been able to power level our professions. And why not just buy the stuff we need off the auction house? Well, I wasn't going to pay what I considered inflated prices. Not unless I really really needed to.
So, there I am with a large amount of items and some suggestions on how to proceed. So what have I done? Not much. But I have had some small success so far.
Late last week, due to a suggestion on a couple of blogs, I popped to the Stormspire and bought 12 each of the Cat Carrier (Siamese), Red Moth Egg and Brown Rabbit Crate. I stuck one each of these on the auction house at 30g BO after sending them to the character who stores pets (yes, I have pets in storage, I'll post a screen shot one day and then hear the cries of outrage). So far only the rabbits have sold and only 3 of those.
Over the weekend I attempted in trying other markets too. On Saturday I started selling Enchant Scrolls. Over the weekend I managed to sell a few Fiery Weapon and Weapon Agility, again bought with materials in storage. I was quite pleased with those sales and will look to developing more in the future.
I also gathered materials from several storage places and made a number of the engineering pets. I concentrated on Pet Bombling, Lil' Smoky and Lifelike Mechanical Toad. I have managed to sell one of the Bombling's for just over 100g but I have sold at least 2 toads and 2 Smokys for over 240g and 200g respectively. Have made a few to store to ensure I always have one to replace a sold one. I only keep one of each on the AH at a time.
I then experimented with netherweave bags. I saw the selling price was over 8g and cloth was going 4g a stack. Bought 4 stacks, converted to bags and put them up. Checked back an hour later and they all gone so bought 10 stacks, converted and posted. A couple of hours later 8 had sold but I had a few auctions lower than me. I thought to buy some more cloth on to find all the auctions had gone except for around a dozen going for nearly 20g a stack. Decided to call it quits for that for the day.
The last thing I tried was later in the evening on the Sunday. I made a bunch of Death Knight glyphs (5 each of around 10-12 of those suggested by Stockpile). I posted these with the standard undercutting settings in Auctioneer and left it at that. I have sold some of them when I checked back the following day.
So, how is it going do I think. I have dipped my toe in the water and haven't last it to anything yet. I haven't found it too hot, nor too cold. I think it might be something I can try. I have a lot more work ahead of me. I need to configure the addons I have got as advised by these blogs. I also recognise that there are already some established players here too from names I have seen posting a lot of stuff. But things may be looking promising. How have I done? Well I am up to over 19,500g. In future I will be making notes of how much I am making through this. I know it will be more than I make through my normal methods. And if I do well? Well, I have the bloggers here to thank.

Greetings from the Trading Post
Well, Hi there. I'm Merl. You know what, lets do this properly.
*stands up and coughs nervously*
Hi. My names Merl and I am a farmer...
There, I have said it. I am a farmer. Why? Well, I have never really known better and it is something that I have been good at doing. Oh, I know the sites out there. I started with Thottbot and then migrated to Wowhead. If I need something I looked it up and then went looking for it. I would grind away with my hunter and work at getting it that way. Yes, I am a hunter too. Have been since I first started playing over 5 years ago now. I will provide a more detailed background and history at a later date but lets get down to this blog...
Well, yes there are lots of money making blogs out there. And I reckon most of them will be better than this one but I am attempting a couple of things. For one, I am documenting my foray into making more money and the way I am going about doing it. And the other, I am hopefully going to point out things that those who are interested may not know about.
I am doing this as well because of others who blog about their experiences. A shout goes to the absolutely outstanding Stockpile without whom I wouldn't be trying any of this. So with luck you will get to see more posts over the next few days/weeks/months depending on if I can keep this up.
