Confessions of a Pack Rat - The Scribe

Before I get onto the Confessions, just want to go over a couple of things that have happened recently. I usually run the tournament dailies on the 80s every day without fail, but since the server shutdown on Wednesday, I have yet to restart them. I will, I know because I want more stuff from Seal purchases. More, I tell you MOAR. In fact Wednesday and Thursday I didn't really do much in game anyway. Friday I decided to work on my warlock more. He was around 62-63 and had only just started in HFP. Got him to 65 last night and immediately got on with leveling tailoring. I had been stockpiling frostweave ready for that and very quickly got to the point where I was making bags and selling them. Even so I had spent almost 1000g just skilling up and purchasing a few things I needed. Happy to see I had nearly 600g in sales on another character.

Another thing I wanted to mention is I often play with the TV on. I prefer to watch shows at my pace. Well, this week was spent catching up with 24. I had only watched the first two episodes of the latest series when it was shown so I watched the whole series this week. Literally just finished watching. WOW. What a ride. And if 24 episodes in a week seems excessive, well I bought the first six seasons on DVD a while back and I went through the lot in 2 weeks. That's excessive.

So, on to the Confessions. I thought I would show the guild bank of the Scribe to start with so you can see what I work with in terms of storage and stock. And it is an interesting bank this one. The character originally started with leatherworking and skinning and moved to Inscription only a short while ago when I was leveling him through Outland and Northrend. At the time his bank was and still is being used for other materials...

As you can see the first three tabs mainly have clothes. Particularly dresses. And there is a good reason for this. Honest. You see, I play on an RP server and my thought s were to cash in on that by selling items used for RP. So I gathered a lot up... And sat on them. I just never got around to doing anything with them. I have slowly started to make a few forays into that market, particularly with the first tab. That whole first lot of dresses, they are all Lovely Black Dresses obtained from Valentines, and not one of them were bought. 20 characters farming the festival everyday for the whole event for two years!!! That's the result with a few on other characters (everyone of my GFs characters has one). They are currently selling for around 50g each so I am slowly selling them on. Don't want to flood the market. I will be looking at doing the same with the other items too.

The tab with glyphs and scrolls were the ones made through leveling and Northrend Research. Again, I store intending to use but nothing happens with them. The glyphs I will keep for Cataclysm as they are low sellers on my market but hoping for an increase come Cataclysm.

And as an aside, I had plans for the clothes. I had an idea of creating an RP market on the Horde side. It was an idea I had been contemplating for a while but never got the drive to get it off the ground. Sometime in the future I may put my ideas down for it, what it would sell. I know it probably wouldn't get as many returns as the AH but might be interested in seeing whether it would work. One day, maybe.

Confessions of a Pack Rat

I am a pack rat. This is a flaw I recognise and it affects me at work, home and in game. I don't like to throw stuff out. I often believe that it is stuff that I can use at a later date. Sometimes this is quite helpful and has stood me well. There have been times at work that I have been able to fix a problem with something I have in the back of the car. I have upgraded a computer with a stick of memory I had in the glove compartment. I often have spare keyboards or mice. And this has also been true in game.

I never throw anything away. Ever. My usual routine while playing is to run around doing a load of quests and pick everything up as I go along. When I hand in the quests I then also go through the bags and sort out everything. Anything that is used by professions gets sent to the relevant character to place into his/her respective guild bank. I use Altoholic to know what amounts of stuff I have but I innately know who looks after what. It has become ingrained. My GF knows that I store stuff so she will ask does anyone have any *item*. If it is on my account then I am able to check and tell her how many through Altoholic but if its her account I have to tell her which character to log. I did have Altoholic transfer the information from her account to mine about a month ago but I need to update it. With the amount it has it takes 15+ minutes if I remember right to get everything over, including guild banks.

So, anything that is profession related gets stored. So too is anything quest or rep related. I have complete sets of Hills of Stranglethorn. Probably around 5 or more with over 12 of some pages. Again, the GF knows I have access to all this and she will ask whether I have something or other. The last three characters I leveled (still am) and her last one both had the complete Hills as soon as they entered STV and immediately had that quest line completed for quick and easy XP. Then any pages they picked up got sent to the storage area again.

I pick up all greys as well. People can forget that money can be made from vendoring them. Grey weapons sell for over a gold each eventually as you level and late in the game entire stacks of grey items sell for golds. I pick them all up and sell nearly all of them!!!

I say nearly all of them because I do sometimes keep some. I play on an RP server and used to RP a lot in the past. I am starting to get back into it again with the insistence of my GF but slowly. However, for a good couple of years I have stored what amounts to be in a lot of cases junk. I have items that have no purpose than to take up inventory space but keep them because of what they are and carrying them can add realism. Sure, they are useless, sure they can be sold for gold but then they have a small RP value. In future posts you will see the junk I have.

I have gathered a lot in my travels and have stored a lot of it. In future posts I will go into each of the storage locations I have and cover what I have. I will try to include screenshots so you can see the lengths I have gone to. Seriously, there have been no limits for this pack rat.
