It was a brand new day and I had money in my pocket. The cooking recipe I had paid little more than a silver for had given me returns in the golds. I had more money than I had ever had before. All for selling one recipe. I looked at the money in my hand and had a thought. Could I do the same with other recipes?
I decided to try expanding my horizons. When I had entered the city the night before I had noticed 2 towers outside the main gates. One of them had a large boat suspended beneath a large bag that seemed to be holding it off the ground. That morning I decided to check them out. Heading out and walking West a ways I got to the closest tower. I headed up to the top platform using the stairs within. Up there were a couple of goblins who explained that the flying ships or zeppelins were free transport provided by the leadership of the Horde to allow their members to travel great distances with ease.
I hopped on the first one to Thunder Bluff and enjoyed the ride looking at the ground passing below. It was a very pleasant trip and I marveled at how much more tranquil the wilderness became the closer we got to the city of the Taurens.
I marvelled at the great city when I arrived. Situated high above the ground upon 3 great pillars, there was a quietness and calm not present in Orgrimmar. Stopping briefly to have some fun with the festival that was still running, I then went for a pleasant walk through the city.
It was as I was wandering, I came across a little hut out of the way. There, a young Tauren offered small prairie dogs. It seems the surrounding lands teamed with them and this enterprising fellow was selling them as pets. I pondered on this and saw an opportunity here for me. The city was a little out of the way and I could reach more customers by using the auction houses present in all cities. Handing over a gold and a half, I bought 3 of the critters and ran to place one straight up for auction at almost 20 times what I paid for it.
I had heard of a village out in the plains of Mulgore and took a leisurely walk to Bloodhoof Village, situated on the edge of a most peaceful lake. Once there, I perused the vendors and bought a few cooking recipes I found. If it had worked once then maybe it would work again.
I decided then to use the magical item the innkeeper in Orgrimmar had given me. The world shimmered around me and I found myself standing in the front of the inn in the hot dusty bustle of the Orc capital. I decided there and then that very soon I would have to trade my room in here for one out with the Taurens. It would be further from the busy trade but the peaceful nature appealed to me more.
I chose then to run to Razor Hill and back, buying a few more recipes while there. These to were given to the auctioner to try and find some buyers for.
The next few days were spent relaxing in Orgrimmar. I checked with the auctioner and started to get my goods returned unsold. I found that someone else started selling the same things that I was. In fact more of them and at a cheaper price. I now had competition. I would have to start lowering my prices but I wasn't bothered to much. I had started with 6s and now had a lot of gold. I could afford it.

This has been written while away from wow and from memory so I am not sure exactly how much I have made so far. Play time is around 2 hours if memory serves me right. Will be trying to get back into updating this blog better in future.

Farmers Market - Enchanting
This is how to make a little extra through grinding. How many people out there are still trying to get Baron Rivendere's mount? Hands up. Thought so. What about grinding through Argent Dawn or trying to find that old world recipe that has eluded us. At 80 it is easy to go back to old dungeons and fairly quickly clear them but we can find ourselves doing it over and over again.
I recently went through Stratholme again. I think I had some reason. It may have been that I just wanted to test what I was about to explain. I did want another crack at the mount. Wanted to see if i could go through it quicker as Survival over Beast Mastery. And wanted to see if I could get some more Righteous Orbs (1 dropped).
Anyway, what you need for this is a friend who is an enchanter, assuming you aren't one yourself. As long as they don't want to do any group work themselves, ask if they wouldn't mind grouping while you run through. Doesn't matter where they are in the world, the looting rules recognises there is an enchanter in the group. Now I don't know about you but those blues that drop in late vanilla dungeons are worth a lot more to me as shards than as vendor items. 5-15 times as much, considering the cost on AH.
Make sure you make it worth your friends while. Throw some gold, shards or something their way. Do they need cloth for rep? Plenty of runecloth in there.
And somewhere like Strath is great for this. 10 bosses if my count was right plus I came across a rare. I walked out with 11 or so shards from that. Otherwise I would have been vendoring the blues afterwards. Plus I did the same with the greens as it meant less bag space taken up.
Oh, and the mount didn't drop in case you were wondering.
NOTE: I wrote this a couple of weeks ago and noticed Markco had posted something similar a while ago while going through his blog earlier this week. I don't want to be seen to be stealing other peoples ideas and honestly hadn't finished going through his blog. This was something I think I remember seeing in passing as a comment and wanted to check to see if this was a workable strategy. Lots of people have probably mentioned it already. I just want to help spread the word a bit.

Monday Musings - Mental Block
I suppose apologies are the order of business first. I have not been particularly good at updating the blog over the last week. Just look at this, posting the Monday Musings on a Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday along with a number of other posts. I started writing this on Monday and have only just managed to post it. I mean to do better but things have just been getting in the way, particularly the game itself. There have been days that I have meant to post but I haven't managed to get something written. But then there have been times I have been lethargic about doing anything. In fact I now have found myself doing less in game at the moment.
I am very good at wasting time. I always have stuff I need to do but often leave it for another time. I am going on holiday in less than 4 weeks and have done very little planning for it. My brother is going to give me a new TV but I need to sort out space for that. I have less than 3 weeks there. Look at this blog and how spotty in the last week it has become. I dread to think how long I have had the films from Lovefilm. And then there is the game.
I have a lot I want to do in game. I was going to say need but I don't need to play the game. I am trying to stay away from that phrase. But there is a lot to do. I have 4 characters I want to level and are at different points. I would like to get them all up but either am reticent for certain reasons or just can't face doing it. Leveling the rogue seems just so slow. Don't know if it is compared to the others but it seems that way. I know once I hit Outland things should change but that's still over 20 levels away.
Another case in point, my battered hilt and the recent holiday. My hilt is still almost just that. I haven't gone in to the instances yet. I also skipped Ahune in the recent festival. Sure, the dungeon finder should make things easy for me but its an instance. Its almost my kryptonite. I just seem to have a block when it comes to it.
There are other things I need, grrr, WANT to do but I just seem to put it off. Its almost as if I have a mental block at times. So in the meantime I can find myself wasting time.
But time for a quick update on things that have happened. My tailor went from 2k down to around 80g just over a week ago. I filled up on raw materials, as in a lot of cloth and some dust and shards. Yesterday I collected a number of auctions putting me at around 3k. I then bought even more materials but always at a good price. I'm down to around 1.6k on him. But more than enough materials to make it back and more.
I also hit 30k spread over all my characters Horde side but then later dropped to around 27.5k. How? I bought more raw goods but at an amazing price. I picked up over 90 Frozen Orbs at 10g each and a bunch more at 15g. Normally they go for over 30g but sometimes come down to 25g. I will be looking at converting these to other items and saving some for epics. I also picked up a large amount of Infinite Dust at under 1.7g an item. Very rare to see them under 2.3g. I now have lots and lots of dust. I did intend to use this for Frostweave Bags (I'm getting very possessive of the bag market) but am thinking of using some of it to level Enchanting. I had planned on leveling it while leveling the character through Northrend but that might be a ways off yet. We'll see.

The History of... err... me! Part Four - Leadership and the end!!!
Another double posting today. Making up for skipping a couple of days this week already so I don't want to get too far behind...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, I was leveling Brogan slowly and occasionally went over to another character if I wanted some time alone. I was the third highest character in the guild at the time. The highest was Jokedubya, our NE warrior and he was followed by BiL our NE priest. When Joke hit 60 he started doing battlegrounds a lot and then decided to create a horde character and give that a go. Well, that was a shock because we didn't play the enemy. Not then. Then BiL hit 60 and decided he wanted to do end game. That meant joining a raiding guild and so he left and started the arduous journey to getting better and better gear and seeing the same instance over and over and over. At least, I believe thats what happened then. I never saw that side of WoW. On leaving, he handed the reigns of leadership over to me.
There was Brogan, leader of the Tremors and still crawling to 60. It was another new experience and so I jumped at it with relish. I had big plans and tried to get more done in the guild. My plans were that we would help each other out. We would assist each other in getting professions up. We would be able to get specific items made by other people or provide items they needed that someone had in stock. Beyond that I really didn't have much of an idea. Others would occasionally run instances they were the level for but little Brogan was still climbing the levels, working his way towards 60.
Then, one day someone mentioned that another player wanted to join and wanted a particular rank. I said that they could be invited and I would talk to them. The person wanted to be promoted to a PVP rank which I explained wasn't possible. This was again in an era when to gain ranks in pvp you had to do a lot of battlegrounds. the Old Days. So then they asked for a higher guild rank. I explained that they would need to help the guild out. He beleived that coming up with a couple of ideas and inviting every he could with guild invite requests was sufficient to be promoted to officer, at least in his eyes. I had to explain that he needed to be more courteous with his invites and that he should also visit the website. At this point, we started coming up with the idea we might need a guild charter to cover acceptable behaviour. Running the guild was starting to be a lot of hard work. The problem player soon left the guild and created his own but he wasn't particularly successful with it. I have to admit I had a level one character in the city and he invited him. I joined the guild sort of as a spy but I saw that nothing really happened. I think he referenced the Tremors in the guild message saying that his guild was going to be better than them which I found amusing.
I eventually hit 60. It took a lot of hard work and a long time but I was finally there. Now came the next big task, earning the 1000g needed for the epic mount and riding. I don't remember much of this except that I got to around 500g or there about. But it was long, slow and boring. I played the other characters occasionally but it wasn't much and again was slow. Other players got to 60 but with so few there they eventually left for other guilds or other servers or started playing alts themselves. The guild was falling apart. I didn't know what to do about it and I think most didn't care.
And with that I stopped playing. The game didn't interest me as much as it had. At some point, free character transfers came up offering transfer from Nordrassil (where I was) to other new servers. Nordrassil wasn't a particularly stable server and so I transfered the entire lot off to Bronze Dragonflight. All characters were able to keep their names except for Brogan. He had to change his to something else but deep down he was still Brogan. Always will be. The guild eventually disbanded. I didn't play on the new server, just occasionally logged on to check the characters as I still kept up with the subscription but just didn't play.
It looked like the end of WoW for me...

Back to Basics - The Beginnings
Ok, last night I was bored. Really really bored. Don't get me wrong, I was enjoying wow. Maybe it was the heat. Maybe that something I was trying to watch off the computer kept causing me issues leading me to the conclusion that maybe I have a hard disk fault developing but I just didn't want to do much last night.
I was checking over auctions and what not. I should have being taking advantage of the midsummer festival to help level my rogue. I could have done SS dailies on my Warlock. I could even have leveled my Death Knight or Paladin a bit. But in all honesty I just didn't feel like it. So I tried something else.
I have characters on other servers. I have friends who play on other servers too. But I have a lot invested in the server I play on. However, I have been intrigued for a while over the project Stokpile did involving creating a new character with no support. Well, I can't do that on my server. I have characters on both sides and besides I would just cheat. So I thought how about creating a character on another server. Well, last night I did.
I mentioned that I had friends on another server. I thought to create a character there so that in future I could go "Hi there, remember me." They play with characters with very suggestable names. Names that have hidden meanings or are double entendres. I do too. I created a Death Knight there called Itsafloppin so that I would fit right in. They don't know I have done that. Besides, I haven't even played him at all. I might use him for some profession stuff later but to start with I wanted to see how I could do from scratch.
So, I created a fresh new level 1 character. I thought go with an Orc. That way I am going to be able to get to the commerce centre of the Horde, should I need it. So, Orc it is. Now to class. Well, I haven't ever really played a Warrior so lets give that a go. So, Orc Warrior it is. Now I need a name. Maybe something suggestive so I can fit in later with that crowd. I don't have to worry about RP names, anything like that. So... A name... A name... And I could only think of one. It just kept going round and round and round. I entered the name and proceeded to login...
Lunchmoney the Orc Warrior was born and ready to start making money in a new frontier (and if you are reading this Stokpile, I'm sorry but I just couldn't come up with anything else).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I picked up the quests in the starting area and got going to make a little to start with. It had been a while since I had been here so I ended up going into the demon cave twice because of the order I did quests. Bit annoyed at the waste of time there. And I also foolishly bought the first available skill at level 2 even though I should have been saving my money for later. But soon I was out of the starting zone and heading North to Orgrimmar where I had plans to make my fortune. I had 6 shiny silver pieces from doing jobs and selling the rubbish I had picked up.
But first there was some stops I needed to make. I had a quest to deliver a package to the inn in Razor Hill. While there, I visited the fire outside and bought a cooking recipe from the vendor there. My 6s had now dropped to 4 and a half. But soon I was walking into the bustling city of Orgrimmar. I spoke to the innkeeper there about having a room for the foreseeable future and headed further into the city to learn how to handle fire. I was given a number of torches and blossoms, the latter of which I handed in for more torches. I then headed to the Auction House to see if any one was interested in what I had.
I put up the recipe (the one that converts scorpid stingers into something edible, apparently a delicacy enjoyed by Thrall) and the 30 torches I had up for sale. The auctioneer said he could take them for up to 2 days if I was interested. I would have to put a small deposit down on the recipe but the torches were unusual enough that he would take them for free. I could check back later to see if they had sold and he would happily mail them to me if no one was interested, minus the deposit of course.
I decided to then go and wash the dust off me, Durotar is covered in the stuff and I was quite dirty after my travels. So, after a relaxing soak I put on my worn travelling clothes and checked in on the Auction House to see how my wares were doing. Imagine my supprise when I checked the ledger to find my recipe had sold. I had paid a little over a silver piece with a few coppers for it and had decided to try my luck. I had asked the steep sum of 10g and found that someone had paid that price. The payment was being sorted and I was informed that it would be delivered to me by secure courier. I headed off to bed knowing that this truly was the land of dreams. Maybe I could make my fortune.

This narative style is completely unintended. I started off by trying to approach it from what I did, how I got started and all but found myself telling it from a first person perspective as if I was there. Quite unusual as I normally play on an RP realm where I do little RP and find myself writing the entry of my new non-RP character as more of a story narative. I might see about keeping that up.
I was quite pleased with the start though. I have a play time of less than an hour, Lunchmoney is already level 6 and has around 10g coming in. The torches haven't sold yet and I am not holding out much hope this late into the festival but there is no deposit on posting them so I might just see about keeping them up, maybe lowering the price and then either ditching them or storing for next year if I keep this up.
This is just an exercise in seeing whether I can make money with just what I have learnt over the last few years and more importantly what I have learnt through reading other peoples blogs. I may or may not make this a long term project. I enjoy playing a lot on the other realm and can't relly spend time with both. But we will see. Who knows what the future holds.
I am very pleased with the recipe sale. I remembered while running up the road that there was a recipe only sold there so I picked up one to have a try. I wanted to keep the rest of my money in case I found something else. But I am gambled on the laziness of someone and won. And I shall try to capitalise on this in future.
Watch out, Lunchmoney is here.

Farmers Market - How to grind
Okay, this may sound odd but today I'm going to talk about how to grind.
What do you mean, how to grind? Don't you just go to the area you need to and start running repeatedly through the same instance or just keep killing everything in sight?
Well, yes you do, but I like to think there is a bit more to it than that. So let me tell you what I do and see if it will help you with your future endeavours.
There are somethings out there that, if you want them, then you are going to have to grind for them. Some are BoP items like the darter pet for the Horde, mounts in instances, certain recipes. If you want these, you have to grind for them. Some are also items very rarely found on the AH or can be quite easily got yourself. I don't think I have ever seen a captured firefly but I have ground out 2. I don't by Orbs of Deception when I know killing the rare spawns in the arena at Dire Maul will get me one eventually (well actually 3).
So, we are going to grind. We need to get setup first. And the first priority is making sure we are comfortable. I play lying on my bed with my head propped on pillows, the laptop on a chair in front of me, the keyboard and mouse positioned where my hands would lie normally. This way I am comfortable and don't have to move much. Yeah, I know, lazy of me but it does help.
Next make sure we have some sort of distraction. Something that can keep a good part of your mind occupied. I personally watch TV. I setup a number of shows I enjoy. Actually, I have watched a lot of my shows this way. And when I say watched, I mean mainly listened too. Sometimes, you'll find yourself concentrating on the TV more than the game, especially if the show is really engaging. I went through the last season of 24 in one week and there were times I completely forgot the game. Music and books are other good methods although they can be better or worse depending on your mindset. Books can be harder because they require more attention than other things. But I did go through a Harry Potter book one weekend while mining underwater in Desolace.
So, we are comfortable and have distractions. now, make sure we have refreshments. Drink and nibbles also provide a little distraction and are useful to have around. It is easy to get tunnel vision and find yourself a few hours later dreadfully thirsty.
Now, ready to grind? No, your not. The last thing you need to do is research. Make sure you know what it is you are after, where it is and that you do have a chance of getting it. No use going to kill so and so mob for a Twisted Chanter's Staff because it highest drop rate only to find out it is a world drop. Please, please, please never try to farm a world drop. Not going to happen. Just play the game normally and pay the AH price. Those are your best bets. But make sure you are in the right area, killing the right mobs and that it will still drop. Research is important.
So, now you can start farming. And I would recommend you carry on for as long as you feel you can. Take breaks every now and then, get up and stretch your legs. If it starts to get frustrating, go and do something else. Remember you are relying on a random number generator to get what you are after. It might take a while.
Also, be respectful of others. They play the game too and you might face competition if they are after the same thing you are. If it gets too bad then stop and go somewhere else. There will always be other days.
The only time I ignore this is if the others are farming bots. How do i know they are farming bots. Well, a couple of ways. Most of them are hunters although I have seen warrior and paladin bots. Hunter pets are never named. They have some old gear. But more importantly, they behave strange. The hunters in Azshara farming the elite dragonkin were moving very strangely. They were ignoring some mobs, moved in erratic paths, jumped regularly, would randomly emote a wave and never ever reacted if I stole a kill from them, which I started doing to test their bottiness. The warriors in a cave in the Storm Peaks never reacted when I skinned their kills before they did and even tried to walk through walls to get to the mobs on the other side. If you find bots, report them. Blizzard do deal with them, even if it does take a while.
And one last thing, the excess useful stuff you pick up. Sell it for money. There will be others who want it. Get as much as you can for it. Erm, except if you are on my realm. Then I just want to buy it cheap off you. What? I have to make some money somehow.

Monday Musings - New Markets?
Well, once again the weekend betrayed me in getting any posts done. I honestly did have some stuff in mind but then I got caught up in other stuff. I was out most of Saturday anyway and that can throw things out. But if I can i may even double or triple post today or tomorrow.
As I mentioned I have been lazily leveling by visiting bonfires. It speaks to a more automated play style. You fly somewhere, visit fire and fly again. This can enable you to do other stuff, in theory. Like getting setup to watch the last 2 seasons of Lost. I have been rather vocal with people about not talking about it around me.
But I should also be trying dancing around the fire poles. That combined with heirloom gear should help with leveling. Maybe devote some time to my rogue. I only have a week left.
Also, I have been wondering about stockpiling. A wonderful piece of advice from Stokpile is to buy and stock so you don't run out. And I have started doing that with certain items at certain prices. Stacks of Netherweave below 8g and Frostweave below 10g are always bought out. Started doing the same with Infinite Dust when below 2g each. And I got a number of Large Brilliant Shards yesterday at a very good price. In fact got around 60.
So what does that mean for my Warlock. Well, I am sticking with the bag market. He's still 70 so I have a while before getting into the spellthread. But I am stockpiling like crazy. I am not going to run out of bags, certainly not Frostweave. But i have gone from 2k gold on him to under 200g. Does this worry me? Well a bit but not as much as it normally would because I know that I should get it all back and more. Especially if the enchants I have started on sell. Shame that righteous orbs are going for 100g each. But i had some in storage.
Besides, I am doing well elsewhere. Pets are selling well. My engineering ones are up to 300g each in some cases. I am trying to expand a bit too.
Something I am starting to look at is the engineering market. I have a maxed out engineer so I am looking to move beyond pets. Engineering is great for quest items...
Gyrochronaton
Dealy Blunderbuss
Mithril Casing
Khorium Power Core
To name a few. Elemental Seaforium Charges will sell in lots of 4 for making the flying machine (assuming the haven't been removed). But there are some other things I have wondered about. Steam Tonk Controller for example. Someone is trying to sell them for 100g. But will they sell.
What about the lunar festival launchers and fireworks? I am on an RP realm so they might. Got to make the price worth it as they are one shots but if no-one else is selling them. So I am looking at getting into a new market with no knowledge on how it will do or how to start. Keep reading and I hope to tell you how it goes.
