Monday Musings - Mental Block

I suppose apologies are the order of business first. I have not been particularly good at updating the blog over the last week. Just look at this, posting the Monday Musings on a Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday along with a number of other posts. I started writing this on Monday and have only just managed to post it. I mean to do better but things have just been getting in the way, particularly the game itself. There have been days that I have meant to post but I haven't managed to get something written. But then there have been times I have been lethargic about doing anything. In fact I now have found myself doing less in game at the moment.

I am very good at wasting time. I always have stuff I need to do but often leave it for another time. I am going on holiday in less than 4 weeks and have done very little planning for it. My brother is going to give me a new TV but I need to sort out space for that. I have less than 3 weeks there. Look at this blog and how spotty in the last week it has become. I dread to think how long I have had the films from Lovefilm. And then there is the game.

I have a lot I want to do in game. I was going to say need but I don't need to play the game. I am trying to stay away from that phrase. But there is a lot to do. I have 4 characters I want to level and are at different points. I would like to get them all up but either am reticent for certain reasons or just can't face doing it. Leveling the rogue seems just so slow. Don't know if it is compared to the others but it seems that way. I know once I hit Outland things should change but that's still over 20 levels away.

Another case in point, my battered hilt and the recent holiday. My hilt is still almost just that. I haven't gone in to the instances yet. I also skipped Ahune in the recent festival. Sure, the dungeon finder should make things easy for me but its an instance. Its almost my kryptonite. I just seem to have a block when it comes to it.

There are other things I need, grrr, WANT to do but I just seem to put it off. Its almost as if I have a mental block at times. So in the meantime I can find myself wasting time.

But time for a quick update on things that have happened. My tailor went from 2k down to around 80g just over a week ago. I filled up on raw materials, as in a lot of cloth and some dust and shards. Yesterday I collected a number of auctions putting me at around 3k. I then bought even more materials but always at a good price. I'm down to around 1.6k on him. But more than enough materials to make it back and more.

I also hit 30k spread over all my characters Horde side but then later dropped to around 27.5k. How? I bought more raw goods but at an amazing price. I picked up over 90 Frozen Orbs at 10g each and a bunch more at 15g. Normally they go for over 30g but sometimes come down to 25g. I will be looking at converting these to other items and saving some for epics. I also picked up a large amount of Infinite Dust at under 1.7g an item. Very rare to see them under 2.3g. I now have lots and lots of dust. I did intend to use this for Frostweave Bags (I'm getting very possessive of the bag market) but am thinking of using some of it to level Enchanting. I had planned on leveling it while leveling the character through Northrend but that might be a ways off yet. We'll see.

Monday Musings - New Markets?

Well, once again the weekend betrayed me in getting any posts done. I honestly did have some stuff in mind but then I got caught up in other stuff. I was out most of Saturday anyway and that can throw things out. But if I can i may even double or triple post today or tomorrow.

As I mentioned I have been lazily leveling by visiting bonfires. It speaks to a more automated play style. You fly somewhere, visit fire and fly again. This can enable you to do other stuff, in theory. Like getting setup to watch the last 2 seasons of Lost. I have been rather vocal with people about not talking about it around me.

But I should also be trying dancing around the fire poles. That combined with heirloom gear should help with leveling. Maybe devote some time to my rogue. I only have a week left.

Also, I have been wondering about stockpiling. A wonderful piece of advice from Stokpile is to buy and stock so you don't run out. And I have started doing that with certain items at certain prices. Stacks of Netherweave below 8g and Frostweave below 10g are always bought out. Started doing the same with Infinite Dust when below 2g each. And I got a number of Large Brilliant Shards yesterday at a very good price. In fact got around 60.

So what does that mean for my Warlock. Well, I am sticking with the bag market. He's still 70 so I have a while before getting into the spellthread. But I am stockpiling like crazy. I am not going to run out of bags, certainly not Frostweave. But i have gone from 2k gold on him to under 200g. Does this worry me? Well a bit but not as much as it normally would because I know that I should get it all back and more. Especially if the enchants I have started on sell. Shame that righteous orbs are going for 100g each. But i had some in storage.

Besides, I am doing well elsewhere. Pets are selling well. My engineering ones are up to 300g each in some cases. I am trying to expand a bit too.

Something I am starting to look at is the engineering market. I have a maxed out engineer so I am looking to move beyond pets. Engineering is great for quest items...

Gyrochronaton
Dealy Blunderbuss
Mithril Casing
Khorium Power Core

To name a few. Elemental Seaforium Charges will sell in lots of 4 for making the flying machine (assuming the haven't been removed). But there are some other things I have wondered about. Steam Tonk Controller for example. Someone is trying to sell them for 100g. But will they sell.

What about the lunar festival launchers and fireworks? I am on an RP realm so they might. Got to make the price worth it as they are one shots but if no-one else is selling them. So I am looking at getting into a new market with no knowledge on how it will do or how to start. Keep reading and I hope to tell you how it goes.

Monday Musings - The Levelling Bug

I haven't done a Farmers Market post for yesterday yet. A couple of reasons really. Partly I had a headache for a good part of yesterday, which honestly didn't stop me from playing. I didn't have a subject at the time either although now I have two ideas to discuss. Must remember them and I will try to do a farmers market tomorrow. But mainly I was too busy levelling my warlock.

I am very much an altoholic and even more so recently. And the heirloom gear is just great for them. I recently went on an heirloom binge and have the cloth, leather dps and plate chest and shoulders as well as both trinkets, dagger, bow, 1 and 2h maces and staff. Been great not having to worry about the various gear items. Okay, it did take a while to get them through the tournament dailies but I'm a farmer. Its what I do.

I got my warlock to 62 through doing a load of the Argent Dawn quests and am now 5000 from revered. Will try to persuade my GF to run through Scholo and Strath at some point perhaps. I then went through HFP, Zang and Terrokar before ending in Nagrand at 69 where I did the Nessingway and Consortium. I then concentrated on the rest of the Consortium and got to both honoured and 70.

SO, what’s next for the warlock. Well, its not Northrend, not yet. I'm going to do the Shattered Sun dailies, maybe all the way to Exalted and go and do starting area quests. I want to get my city reps to Exalted or close enough. But why do the SS quests? I do have a reason to my madness and it is due to a method I had to make me money. Not for everyone but it comes down to getting money instead of XP at 80. I'll go into more detail in a later post and again, it isn't for everyone but there may be some who will appreciate it.

So, the warlock has some purpose to him before Northrend. In the meantime I have a paladin at 55 who is on a sort of hiatus because my GF mentioned how I kept overtaking her and I'm going to let her level hers a little more first. Besides I have a rogue in the early 30s I need to work on more. And its slow levelling the rogue. Okay, I'm combat spec for ease but it still seems slower than the other two. Plus I seem to have had more fun levelling the paladin and warlock. And if my GF will let me, I also have my death knight too. I'll give a rundown of my characters in a later post.

I noticed something else yesterday that I had forgotten about with TBC, mainly because of the changes to improve levelling. When you level you normally hit 70 in Nagrand. Of course some head for Northrend at 68 but I am a person of habit. I never go to Outland before 60 and Northrend before 70. But even so, you tend to end in Nagrand at 70 at which point you go to Northrend. Because I was working on Consortium I found myself in Netherstorm killing mobs for quests. And an enchanting recipe dropped. I had forgotten that there were profession only drops in high Outland zones. Okay, the one I got yesterday was only shadow resistance on cloak but it got me thinking. What other recipes were there? In a later post I will try to work on some lists for those who are interested. I may have to try and do them earlier than later but we'll have to see what interesting items are out there.

Monday Musings - 1c

Welcome to Monday Musings where I will comment about stuff and discuss general things.

1c

I started my auctioning last week and entered into the glyph market. By the weekend I had some sales, not great but there we are. I had just started. Anyway, can't remember what it was that had me do it but I decided to do a scan of glyphs with mine up and I had been undercut on more than few. And undercut by a copper. By one person. Other glyphs of mine which he wasn't listing were under bid by another person for about 10s. Added them to friends and noticed that when I cancelled and relisted, the 1c guy very quickly cancelled and relisted too.

This got me a little annoyed. Sure, I was getting a few sales but I know he was probably getting a lot more of what should rightfully have been mine. So I started playing with the settings of QA3 and relisted. Sure enough, soon I was underbid by 1c and then by 10s. I know this are different people, at least I think so.

Anyway, last night I decided to take a couple of different approaches. This isn't something to get worked up over. Its just a game and wishing for my competitors computers to explode isn't going to get me anywhere. So I will adjusting my efforts and seeing where I end up.

Glyphs go bye bye?

I was talking to my Brother-in-Law yesterday and he mentioned reading some news about Cataclysm, specifically that Path of the Titans was out and the glyph changes. When he told me that I immediately responded with,"That's the biggest market gone." He mentioned seeing comments saying the same. So I read the posting about it and thought... Great, I have just tried to enter the market and it is being taken away from me, and those annoying under bidders will get it.

But I took some time to think about it later when the fuming had stopped. True, I won't be selling the same amounts of glyphs any more but I'm not at the moment anyway. But there will be those who want all the other glyphs on top of what they have. Those less wanted ones might sell. Also, who knows what changes will happen to existing ones. And then there's all the new medium glyphs. So, maybe there still will be a market. Besides, I'm leveling 3 toons at the moment. I need glyphs. Won't others. Will there be room for me? Lets wait and see.

Sparkle pony

When the Celestial Steed was added, I kept quiet. I knew my girlfriend would want one. And I was playing when she logged a while after it was added. So I heard the "awwww, what's that? Its purrrrtttttyyyyy. I want one." I explained you bought it from the store and explained how much, and that was it. Except whenever she saw one I would hear the comments. And how many people have one?

Anyway, she did some nice things for me recently. Me for her too, I must add. I got her the pets from Stormspire for some of her characters and she sent me some real life presents. And then she bought me a White Kitten in game. I mentioned then I was keeping an eye out for them to sell and she insisted I kept it for myself.

So I decided I would get her the Sparkle Pony. Bought it yesterday while she was sleeping and got it sorted on her account. To say she was surprised when she found it in the mail is an understatement. She had no idea where it had come from at first. But she loves it and what more can I say. I also finally got around to redeeming the Murloc Marine that came with last years Blizzcon feed I had purchased with her account last year. That's another thing she loved as well.

Mage Portals

I have decided when Cataclysm comes out that I would probably level a goblin mage. I don't have a mage on my account and it would be a help to my GF being able to portal her to places I have got to. She has mage at 70 so that means I can get my characters to Shattrath with her help but that doesn't help her... Until last night.

I had been thinking about her mage and her other characters. I have noticed that when you log off, the character stays in group. With that in mind I logged one of my characters and she, one of her low levels. I invited her to group, she then relogged to the mage, created a portal, relogged back....

And then I realised I had forgotten to add the mage to the group. So back to the mage, join group, create portal, relog and the lower level was off to Shattrath. Useful to know for future use. Not sure how it plays into taking advantage of loophole, but at least we have a way to get her characters through portals, even if it is a little fiddly.
